Beginner through advanced shuttle tatting classes will be held here at Lavender & Lace at The Bothy Farm on Saturday mornings for a fee. Beginner, intermediate and advanced students will all be taught in one session and their learning will be tailored to depending on their experience. If you don't already have tatting supples shuttles and thread can be purchased in the Lavender & Lace shop. Tatters are encouraged to gather to share their wisdom, techniques and tips during classes.
Other needle workers are invited to bring their projects, relax and enjoy the lavender and companionship, too. To sign up or request additional information regarding lace making lessons please contact us at 540-905-4749.
The first three tatting classes will occur on Saturday June 10th, June 17th, and June 24th. Class sizes are limited to 5 people each. The first class will cost $15.00 and includes the cost of the class, tatting Shuttle, tatting thread & cord and a tatted butterfly pattern.
The following classes will cost only $10 each and include the price of instruction as well as the pattern. Descriptions of each class can be found below.
Class 1: Students will learn the fundamentals about strings and threads, materials needed for tatting and the tools. Students will be taught the history of tatting, the techniques for creating the tatted Double Stitch knot and tatted lace. Plus, students will learn how to read tatting patterns and instructions. Students will create a tatted Ring. Then learn to tat a butterfly earring.
Class 2: Students will learn more about the history of tatting. Students will be guided on using the tatting shuttle to tat multiple butterflies for a bracelet or a bookmark. Students will be instructed on how to tat a heart using “Victorian Set” techniques and beads.
Class 3: Students will learn how to create a tatted Chain using 2 tatting shuttles. Students will be instructed on tatting Chains and Rings, learn about tatting techniques and the appearance of fine tatting. Students will receive a tatted pattern with Rings and Chains. Class session will include reading various types of tatting patterns written within the past 100 years because so many of the older patterns are beautiful to tat.
Additional classes will be $10 each and will be held on the Saturdays following the first three classes from 9:30am to 11:00am.
